Accessibility statement
Public information should be accessible to the people it serves. Accessibility is part of the design, content and ongoing update process.
Our WCAG 2.2 AA approach
This design concept targets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. It is a sample for RFP review, not a certification of compliance or an assessment of TJPDC’s current website.
- Semantic page structure, a skip-to-content link and logical heading order.
- Keyboard-operable navigation, filters and dialogs with visible focus indicators.
- Readable type, sufficient text contrast and meaningful image descriptions.
- Clearly labeled forms, field-specific error messages and announced updates.
- Mobile-friendly layouts with a minimum 44px target size for controls.
- Reduced animation when a visitor requests reduced motion.
Virginia accessibility expectations
Public-sector digital services should support equal access consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and applicable Virginia accessibility requirements. A production implementation would review relevant Virginia Information Technologies Agency accessibility standards, applicable Section 508 requirements and Title II digital accessibility obligations with TJPDC.
Documents and ongoing checks
Accessible pages also need accessible documents. The proposed process includes checks for meaningful document titles, tagged PDFs, reading order, descriptive links and accessible alternatives when needed.
Automated checks are paired with keyboard, screen reader and mobile testing. Routine updates are checked for accessibility and working links, with issues tracked in the monthly report.
Known concept limitations
Meeting records and document previews are illustrative. Forms do not transmit information. The translation control demonstrates placement only and does not translate the preview. The supplied photographs have limited source resolution.
